I am 23 years old, I don't have any knowledge of music and musical instruments.
I would like to learn more about music and musical instruments, but only as a way of relaxation. I am thinking about learning how to play the guitar, and possibly not get very much into complicated musical notions.
How can I learn to play a guitar (or what other instrument??? I don't know)?
What guitar should I buy: classical, electric, or acoustic? I want one of 100-150 $, and I want a new one, not from e-bay, because in my country we don't use e-bay.

Can you give me advice (good advice from people that know better than me maybe?...), or do you think I'm just nuts if I think about this thing?

Thank you!

PS: I don't want to start a band, I want to play it for me.. and possibly impress some girl or something creepy like that... hehe, I'm joking, is it a good joke?

1. Save money by buying an acoustic guitar.

2. Buy a book that covers all guitar chords & scales that you will need to know about & learn to play by practicing.

3. Learn how to play the guitar by ear. Listen to your favorite guitar tracks (especially rock & funk) and try to figure out the notes by hearing. You will not be perfect overnight. But you'll have a lot of fun hearing every detail of music itself.

First of all .. good choice.. nuts? Not at all!! I've been playing since I was 10, 53 now. Took up piano at 17. The Guitar is a lot of fun. the hardest part is just getting your fingers used to pressing down hard enough on the frets to avoid any string buzz. Not knowing where you live?? U.S. etc?? You can purchase a guitar via Musicians Friend, the Guitar Center or other music stores in your area.. I'm not one to push into spending a lot of money.. If you enjoy it and want to spend more later. go ahead. otherwise. keep your investment low for the time being.. Some local Junior Colleges in our area offer beginning guitar for all ages.. Private lessons are nice..but I think they over charge for beginners. I've taught off and on for over 25 years and will not charge beginners what I charge for advanced players. Check out Vision Music.com another site to learn from..

Regarding guitar type? Find out what music interests you the most.. I have many guitars.. and use them for the genre I'm playing etc. at that moment. Maybe in your case.. acoustic guitar would be fine. Since your a little older and your hands are larger the classical nylon string guitar would be nice to try. The necks are slightly wider than avg. acoustic guitars. Just try a few out and see.. Good luck..

Okay, buy a cheap fender squier guitar (good sound for the buck, about 90-100 brand new) or buy a bass guitar to learn basic playing methods. Then use on-line tablature (not musical notation) to learn some chords and basic songs and take it from there. I personally learned bass before learning guitar (self-taught on both), and actually enjoy bass more, but thats just me.

I would advise you that if you can, take a person who plays with you to help pick out your guitar. Also, I would go accoustic because you won't need an amp and accessories. Remember above all, If it were easy EVERYONE would play a guitar. You can expect soar painfull fingers, on the ends AND on muscle in the fingers before never used. I would also advise you to get a guitar stand and keep your guitar handy and nearby, you'll practice more that way. PRACTICE is the key. good luck

you can learn by asking to anyone who knows how to play the guitar..or may be you can take guitar lessons...a minimum of 3 months lessons and a lot of practice is enough to make you an average guitar player..needs more learning and more practice to become a good player..buy an acoustic guitar as you are a beginner..

You can buy a very cheap guitar from musiciansfriend.com

However, it's not going to sound great for 100-150 dollars... IT's going to sound quite cheap. I suggest looking up a "Squier Electric Guitar" to start with. It's great and very cheap. To learn, go to your local music store or even a music school if you have one near you and they usually can suggest someone to give you lessons.

don't worry so much! before you get a guitar take ONE 1 1 1 1 1 lesson and ask the instructor what kinda guitar you should get. it would help a lot! if you take 1 lesson only you can find out most the stuff you want answers to. cause we aren't always the experts. !*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!
