Starting at the largest string and going to the smallest, the key must be this: E, A, D, G, B, e

So, get your tuner and pluck only the largest string and look at the nob at the top of the guitar that that string is connected to. you want to hook your guitar to the tuner and pluck the note, if it is not E, then you must turn the nob up to get a higher note and turn the nob down to get a lower note. So say that string was reading Eb, You want to turn it up so that it reads E in the center of the tuner. Repeat for the rest of the strings.

i'm a begginer too and that's the first thing i learned how to do...when you pick each string while you tune it the lights on the tuner will turn red or green, red means that it's flat or sharp...when the light turns green it means the string is tuned. You have to use the tuner knobs on the top of the guitar to tune the strings. You turn it one way slowly and tightens/loosens the string, changing the pitch. Everytime you pick a string the tuner will show you what the note is and whether it's high or low (flat or sharp). You keep adjusting the knob for the string until the light turns green. It's really easy but hard to explain.

Another useful tip, even if its not tuned standard and you need to tune the guitar to itself, you can do this:

5th fret low E string= open A string
5th fret A string= open D string
5th fret D string= open G string
4th fret G string = open B string
5th fret B string= open high E.

Get it? 5th fret on every string is the same note as open on the next string up (except G, which is 4th). You can tune it that way, though if you don't know the one you start with is in tune then theres no way to verify anything other than that its tuned to itself.

Tuners pretty self explanitory once you hook it up and turn it on, red is bad, green is good. You're looking for natural notes, not flat or sharp. Thats it and thats all, good luck :)
