Good question, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Consider the Jesus freaks, evangelicals and other deeply religious folks, all have reverted to that primitive limbic systems of our brains, the place where our deepest emotions reside. The 'born-again' Christian phenomena has a scientific basis. When people are in deep despair, near death, nearly starved, or other highly emotional states, the 'religious experience' is triggered. Hormones, dopamine receptors and other chemical reactions take place...all good for the body. They help to fight diseases, etc. It was a survival mechanism our bodies have devloped since the days of our primitive ancestors.

Those that know the truth however, ie Objective Reality, are not allowing themselves the body's defensive mechanizm that has evolved over time. The closest they (we) can come is to believe in the 'power of positive thinking' which is the closest to religion (use of the limbic system of our brains) that we atheists can get.

I've chosen Objective Reality, even knowing that a delusional worldview could be beneficial to my health and body....go figure.

Great question! I think that ignorance is a blessing SOMETIMES however it is not in every circumstance.

I'll give an example. I'm in sales. I've seen new (and inexperienced) sales reps walk into a seemingly complicated sales situation and walk out with a quick sale. Because they lack product knowledge, competitive knowledge, industry knowledge, sales knowledge ect., they are not looking at the entire scope of things and sometimes this can be to their benefit. They'll just walk into the customer's office and sometimes the customer will actually sign the darn paper without even thinking about it.

On the other hand, most of the time an experienced rep will consistently land better and larger sales using the knowledge that a young rep doesn't have. So in my oppinion, ignorance CAN be bliss on occasion. Most of the time knowledge is better. There is no better way to quantify my theory than by looking at the sales numbers of inexperienced sales reps versus experienced ones. Experience almost always wins.

PS Hard work usually beats both of them!

Let's get the expression right. Ignorance is bliss. Not a blessing. Ignorance is never a blessing. We seek knowledge because we want to know. We are curious in a great many ways.

I've heard that ignorance is bliss...however, if it is a blessing, it is a blessing for all the demagogues who need to put their propaganda into blissfully ignorant minds. Ignorance is not a blessing nor bliss...nobody can enjoy feeling humiliatingly stupid all the time (except potheads, I guess). Anyone who wants to remain ignorant is just using this as a cop-out/excuse for being lazy. Free education is taken for granted...one of the Greek philosophers (I forget which one) said that a child should not be given an education until he thirsts for knowledge. People without information thrown at them will eventually have questions that they can only answer with education.

ignorant is a blessing as long as you remain ignorant. Unfortunately you won't know that you are blessed because you are ignorant. So, you will try to pursue happiness but, to do this you will have to gain knowledge. Once you gain enough knowledge you will realized that ignorant truly is a blessing. Of course, by that time it will be too late for you.

Is just another one of Gods funny things.

I agree with the above that ignorance is bliss and that we seek knowledge as a blessing.

The expression is; "Ignorance is bliss" Bliss = complete happiness. The ignorant are in this state because they know of nothing else.

People seek knowledge because, "Knowledge is Power." If you know the reason for or the source of something, then you can do something about it.

"ignorance is a blessing" is just a "cutesy" expression that isn't important. people naturally want to improve their lives and the best way to do that is to seek knowledge.
