you asked a question, and i'm going to be honest,if you are truly in labour, you'll know about it yourself,go in with a bit of pain because its your first baby and you are getting a few pains and more than likely you'll be sent home, believe me,i've had quite a few false alarms.you'll know when its time! it sounds like you are in the early stages, take a couple of paracetamol, get some rest and see what happens.when the pain gets worse then its time to contact the hospital,if you are concerned phone the hospital, but personally,id hang on at home for a while.if you cant sleep, then stay on your feet and let gravity take hold.good luck and hope all goes well,

a) pack your bags
b) have the husband get gas, paperwork, cameras and everything else ready RIGHT NOW!

c) start timing.

If they last 60 seconds and are 5 minutes apart (some say 4 minutes) and are regular for a period of an hour, then head off. Regular spacing is something they are looking for.

If your water breaks, in the car you go. You'll be learning the difference between fake and real contractions very shortly after that.

NOTE: There is no penalty, fee, embarassment, sadness, or anything else negative associated with going to the hospital EARLY. No one will laugh or make fun of you. It's perfectly normal and the doctors and nurses are ready for it and willing to help. If you feel the need--go.

Good luck.

i just had a baby in november and i felt like this also but i didnt go until they felt like they were only a few minutes apart or if bleeding or anything like that it is possible you could start bleeding if you do dont freak out it is normal woman have good instincts so go by what you feel and you will know when it is time this could also be the baby moving or where the baby is laying they say when the baby has laid still for a while and you havent felt it move then the baby will be coming soon
so dont be alarmed if you dont feel this baby move but this should only last at the most is a day

I agree - at 4cm you should go into hospital. Try and have a nice warm relaxing bath first and something to eat as you've got a lot of hard work ahead. It worked for me and I got to the hospital with 30 minutes to spare and was glad I had something to eat, cause hospital food is terrible. Good luck and congratulations (beforehand)

you can go in when u feel you need to,they will check you over and send you home if your not doing anything. alternatively you could wait until your contractions become more intense and you are able to time them properly. i found that during the early stages my contractions were all over the place but as i got to 4 cms the were regular, coming at every 6 mins..wait and see how you feel in a few hours.your body will tell you when you have enough and its time.
please dont feel worried if you do want to go in and its to early or whatever,if it makes you feel better then do it.

take it easy and hopefully you should have baby in your arms soon

godluck hope things go smoothly!will think of you x

With my daughter I went in for a weekly visit and they kept me, my labor continued till the next day. With my son, I went in at 7:30 AM and I started pushing at 10:15, he was born at 11:25. Stay home as long as you feel comfortable doing so. Hospitals and birthing centers are a lot more like home now, but home is still more comfortable for you mom.

You go if you get extremely uncomfortable with contractions that are coming between 3-7 minutes apart and they continue for what seems to be an entire hour. Definitely go if you have a gush of fluids or bleeding that is bright red or dark brown.

Go to the hospital when you feel those contractions about
every 5 mins.. You don't want to wait till the last minute
and give birth in a car.

When the pains come every 5 minutes and you cant talk or walk while having them. You MAY but in early labor but you are better off dealing with at home then in a hospital room waiting.

When its time to go in you will KNOW, trust me! Labour tends to start off with these period pain type sensations before it gets worse, and it enevitably will, at which point you will be in no doubt to go in. Having said all that there are always going to be a small percentage of women who dont ever get to that stage and if you happen to be one of them then its not worth risking a home delivery....so id suggest if you are in any doubt pop along to your maternity unit for further examination and they will decide for you if you should stay or go home. Goodluck x
