I love speech, I was president of the team in high school! Here's some advice on what not to do...do not pass a basketball around the room, no matter how gentle and harmless you mean it to be,I made the mistake of sending a roll of toilet paper around the room in my speech class for a sales speech and ended up being a tp football toss. If the teacher hadn't have been my speech coach, she probably would have killed me. I also wouldn't try to do any "tricks" with the ball yourself, if you aren't used to playing, you're just going to look like you're trying to hard and will probably get nervous and send it flying across the room. That being said, you could still bring a basketball but set it up using a display or even bring in one of those small hoops with the suction cups and foam ball and use that as part of your speech. I would suggest getting a display board and drawing 'plays' out, which could just be examples or represent different things in your speech. You could even name the plays after your teacher and/or others in the class. Interview a player or two from the basketball team and use that in your speech. Give the basics about the game, and stay focused but in 5-7 min you have plenty of time to inject some creativity as well. Good luck :)

Come out with a jersey & sweat bands on, and bring a basketball.

You will not be a nerd if you don't act like one, just go all out, and people will think you're funny.

I'm not sure what topic you want to speak on, but if you are allowed to have class participation and you want to get their opinion, you could "pass the ball" for asking the question.

You could also use basketball terms/plays as analogies to your speech.

Since I'm not sure what you're specificaly speaking about, I cannot help you much further.

Well PowerPoint is a good way to present stuff... also you could have some basketball players show a demonstration.

Hope this is good advice
