Overrated: Mike Vick: Just a bad, bad Quarterback. If it's a big game, I want Mike Vick ... PLAYING FOR MY OPPONENT!
Chris McAllister: This guy is a solid CB, nothing more. His speed is subpar, and fast WR burn him deep sometimes. He's OK in Zone. Would be a better safety.
Edgerrin James: Maybe less so now after his debacle in Arizona, but those of us who watched knew the Colts would be better without him. James stopped running hard and fighting for yardage in 2000.

Underrated: Frank Gore: This guy is a beast, and was a top-3 back last year on a bad team. You watch, next year Gore will get 1,700 - 1,800 yards and win the rushing title.
Marc Bulger: Bulger is among the top-5 passers in the game, but you'd never know it by watching ESPN. In fact, when it comes to accuracy and dissecting a defense, he's second only to Manning.
Donald Driver: Driver is one tough bastard. This guy has a slight frame and decent speed, nothing special. But he's fearless and has great hands, which has earned him a beating over the years but also some damn good numbers. Driver was probably consistently the best WR in the NFL this year. Yes, I'm not exagerrating.

I agree that Mike Vick is the most overrated and i also think a Manning is over rated but its not Peyton, Peyton is a great player and deserves everything he has got. Eli on the other hand is way overrated. Im a Bears fan so it pains me to say that about Peyton but you cant say he is overrated he is a once in a generation player.

the most underrated player in the NFL is Hunter Smith, the punter and place kicker for the Indianapolis Colts.

I'm sorry for picking such a borrer, but the colts long snapper seems to put every snap in a very awkward place (like around Hunters shoulder) but he always seems to get it down perfectly, and makes it look easy.

most guards and tackles are also very under-rated

If you want more of an impact position, then i think both Lions starter Jon Kitna and Pittsburgh backup Charlie Batch also really don't get thier dues.

Other under-rated players include: Stephen Jackson, Frank Gore, and Reggie Wayne

If terms of most over-rated i don't think there is one guy...
I think Terrell Owens on the Dallas Cowboys is very over-rated... he can make some highlight reel catches but he drops a tremendous amount of passes, and demands the ball way to much, he also has a bad attitude...

At Quarterback i think Ben Roethlisberger, and actually Eli (not Peyton) Manning, get WAAAAY too much attention... I'm not convinced Ben should be starting quarterback, and both were disapointments this season when their teams needed it the most. Eli is good, but he certainly isn't great, and he throws a ton of picks.
Charles Woodson of the Packers, Warren Sapp of the Raiders and Keyshawn Johnson are still getting a lot of praise, and they aren't anywhere near the players they were a few years ago. So they have fallen into the category where they are not deserving of the credit they recieve.

Finally, it may come as a shock but i think already in his career Reggie Bush has become one of the most over-rated players in the game today. It's undoubtable the guy has talent, but he is still yet to prove he is who people say he is.

Overrated: Michael Vick, hands down. I get so tired of hearing how he's "revolutionizing" the quarterback position. How is not winning when it counts "revolutionary"? I could do that!

Honorable Mention: Eli Manning- Getting pretty sick of hearing about his football "pedigree." Whilst I don't hate the Manning family, the facts state that Archie never won anything and Peyton JUST got his first Super Bowl win. Eli has proved nothing to me except that he's not the leader the Giants need. He looks like a pansy out there.

Cheers!

Tony Romo most overrated or at least overhyped. Has there ever been a 4th year QB that led his team to 6-5 record and got more attention?

To be over rated you must have people ready to part with money.

Michael Vick has his "Mike Vick Experience" commercials and did nothing.

Underrated must be the guy who does the work as someone else gets the credit. I'd say any offensive linemen on any team wear ball carriers who get 100% of the credit/endorsements/etc.

This year it is San Diego. Last year it was Seattle.
