I ask the same question before to my husband who has been living here his whole life, we live in the famous "tornado alley" and I'm from Mexico City and we do not know anything about severe weather even though it happens there too. What surprises me the most is that living here and having to deal with severe weather almost all the time there are no shelters for tornadoes for example. If you are out there shopping or at the movies or at work, and there's a tornado coming and you have to get underground there's no where to go! I think states that are more at risk for severe weather should have shelters that people with no basements or that are doing their regular activities outside can go to instead of a closet in the lower floor or ditches. It would be easier and a lot of people would survive more that kind of weather.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Yes and no. For one thing, they would need one EVERYWHERE! Natural disasters happen when you least expect it, and if you least expect it, they would need one everywhere. Even though hurricanes happen near coastal areas, you probably won't go to the shelter and will stay at home, and ride the storm out, so why waste 50 million dollars on shelters when no one is going to go there? Why not use it on public schools?

And for my positive side, i think that shelters should come with every HOME. Maybe a basement or a storm area underground. but only for each house. not a specific place like a building or a school. just a basement.

For areas that are vulnerable to these storms, generally there are evacuation route signs for people to follow when escaping a hurricane coming ashore. Where tornadoes commonly occur there are underground shelters in most areas.

If the states dont have one, that means the hurricanes are not as bad or they are just tropical storms that hit there. Places like Florida, for example, where i live, there is a whole bunch. They have shelters all over.
