When it comes to mystery shopping, I think the idea of trying to create a stable income based on the $8 to $15 the various companies may give you for your services is a bit unrealistic. Too many people are looking at the same job boards as you, making it difficult to have a full day of shops.

I've been doing mystery shops for the past four or so years and have quite a bit of success doing it. It hasn't been about the money that I've earned doing it, but the money that I've been able to save by having the companies 'comp'ing the services I was hired to report on (I did the majority of the work while I was in college). I was more than happy to take thirty minutes or so to type something up for them in exchange for a $100+ meal. Besides restaurant shops, I've also been able to find various companies that do shops for amusement parks, retail stores, auto shops, hair cuts...the list goes on and on. Its all a matter of finding a reputable company.

oh no it's totally legit. There are millions of mystery shoppers out there, but the problem is you can't talk about it because that will blow your identity.

The money you wire to them gets you registered into the mystery shopper database and a badge that you can bust out in times of need, like when you bust a restaurant for poor service.

Don't believe me? How do you think that Taco Bell/KFC restaurant got nailed with the rats in it? Undercover mystery shopper. It's a huge industry with great career prospects all over it.

seriously I hope you note the sarcasm in this. Get a real job...

Mystery shoppers do exist, and they are a legitimate business technique used by major corporation. However, you should never have to spend your own money to become one. That is a red flag. If you are ever in doubt about a job offer, I recommend checking out the company for free with the Better Business Bureau.
