I have had my beta fish for about two weeks. His tank has been next to a window and it is pretty cold outside here. I feed his everyday and have cleaned his tank twice a week. He has been very letargic the past couple of days and doesnt seem to be eating. He is still alive but is floating at the top of his tank kinda on his side. What can I do to make him better??

His tank is only about a gallon and a half... he has rocks but nothing else yet, I have moved him away from the window and under a light, he seems to be getting some activity back

The first thing to do is most his tank and make sure it's staying fairly warm. Middle 70's is good. if you can provide a few more details we might can offer better assistance. How big it the tank and how is it filtered and decorated? Are there any other fish in the tank? Those are important to helping you get a good answer.

Whatever you do, Dont Flush Him! That wont put him "out of his misery" it will torture him, he will die a slow, painfull death =(. The problem is his tank is too cold probably. Get a small hetaer, they make ones for under two gallons at Walmart and a thermometer. Monitor the water temp, it should be around 76-80F, never below 74! Also, try feeding him something besides flakes or pellets, like freezedried bloodworms. Even sick bettas dont usually resist these. The side part concerns me, he might have swim bladder, there is really not much to do for swim bladder disease, sadly though.
Good Luck and Hope He Gets Better =)

don't sudenly move him away from the window, as a quick change in temperature may cause him to get cotton wool disease, which will cause him to die within a day or so. (little thingy that looks like cotton wool attatched to anywhere on him) He might just be getting sick from old age.

Do you add tank conditioner to the water when you clean his tank, or is it just straight tap water? I think it is healthier if you add beta tank conditioner to the water when you change it since it takes out the chemicals in the tap water.

I don't think you should clean his water that often, once a week is good.

First move him away from the window, then if the tank is big enough (which if it isn't then get a bigger one) get a heater for it.

Check out the link I provided for some basic betta care that most people either don't know they need or don't care.

Well. . .I don't think theres really anything you can do for it. I have two betta fish, I had another one but I think I fed it too much and it died. I really hope everything will turn out okay, good luck and best of wishes!

Do you use distilled or spring water. Use spring water if possible.
