no, because there is no gameboy advance game.
when you connect a gameboy to the gamecube to play multiplayer FF:CC you need to make sure that there are no games in the GBA, otherwise it will not work properly
a standard controller still needs to be in the system, but the other three players will have to use GBAs for controllers. as well, since it's multiplay, the game doesn't 'pause' when you look through your item inventory and such

no quoted in the manual (page 21 if u have the manual) "In multiplayer mode, you must use a GBA in place of a nintendo gamecube controller" there is no ff game to connect to the gamecube
