Ok, think about this......why would you be having menstrual cramps? You're not having a period. Those cramps are contractions. I'm not sure why you're 4 cm. dialated and not in the hospital. I think you should call your doctor or go to L&D, because you're in LABOR!

Not menstrual cramps, but the same muscle trying to get a baby out. I think they are contractions, especially if you've been 4cm for 3 days. It sounds like a slow labour - not necessarily as bad as it sounds, because although longer it is apparently often milder.
Has your water broken? If so then you really ought to seek medical advice, as the baby is considered to be at risk of infection if not delivered within 24/48 hours of this happening.
Good luck!

Could be latent or "early" labour. The "real" contractions could be building up and will start soon.
I found the real contractions much more painful than any menstrual cramp, but everyone is different. My labour was fairly fast - when the contractions started they were very powerful which meant painful!
Some women go through their entire labour and find it no more painful than menstrual cramps!

You are in labor and need to get to the hospital NOW. If you are already 4cm dialated, the baby could come at anytime.

as you are 4cm dilated and having cramps i would say you are in the beginning of labour.
i had the same thing for three weeks and everyone kept fobbing me off. the thing is that when my waters broke he was born just three hours later. my advice would be to watch out for any worsening pains or your waters breaking, if it happens get to your birthing place as sson as you can as you may be lucky for things to move quickly.
good luck with it all

My early contractions felt exactly like really bad menstrual cramps. You may be in early labor.

Labour has been likened to menstural cramps in the beggining before it gets bad so I think what you are experiencing is your cervix softening and dilating. Goodluck with the labour! x
