she is not congested, but she doesn't seem to be doing it on purpose, either. She started yesterday, and it was infrequent. I thought she was just playing, but it is getting more frequent today. What could cause this?

Although she may not seem congested to you yet, she might have a cold or infection. If she isn't having any other symptoms, I would wait a day, then take her to the doctor if it continues or gets worse. You might also call her doctor's office and ask if this is something to be concerned about. Pediatricians' offices get a lot of these calls, you won't be bothering them. Also, many insurance companies have free nurses hotlines which you can call to ask if this is something to worry about. Your insurance probably has this type of thing, and they are a good resource new moms ( and experienced ones, too).

Let the pediatrician know if you are worried about anything like this. My daughter snored from the very beginninng and as it turned out her tonsils were huge. The tonsils were removed at age 4 but I had to tape record her snoring to convince the surgeon that she had a problem for them to do surgery. Once the tonsils were removed, the snoring stopped. Probably best to consult her physician.

milk stuck at the back of her throat. She might just need a drink...or to cough. If it starts bothering her, or you get really worried about it, take her to the doctor, it could be the beginning of a cold too
