"Sandman" by Neil Gaiman.

To me, they're without a doubt the most interesting, deepest, and most unusual comics/graphics novels ever. The tell the story of the Endless - Death, Destiny, Dream, Desire, Despair, and delirium, who used to be Delight.

They deal with everything from the meaning of life to love, hate and battles - and they draw on a background involving everything from Greek mythology over Shakespeare to modern pop culture.

Asterix & Obelix. Just love every book!! Will sit with one anytime anywhere.

It contains comic elements for all ages: young children like the fist-fights and other visual gags, while adults appreciate the cleverness of the allusions and puns that appear throughout the texts - even the names of the characters contain puns, and vary with translation into other languages
Have read a couple of books in French and almost all in English. Some have been made to animated movies too.

IMHO, Miracleman (published in the UK as Marvelman) was the most realistic comic ever to show what it would be like if there really were superbeings among us. I was so disappointed when it ended, but even today the storyline is great, the art is high quality, and the characters are engaging.

elf quest is okay, i read the old x-men, they're amazing. also check out sin city. the movie was great and the books are even better. Bone is good, but it doesn't really have action. I also enjoyed this comic set in anceint japan. I don't remember the name, but everyone are animals and the main character is a ronin hare. it's pretty cool. for new comics i'd go with outsiders or x-men. actually x-men have pretty much always been good. Wolverine's comics were excellent as well.

The New Teen Titans During the Marv Wolfman George Prez era. This is the title that got me into comics in the first place.

The one I found myself reading over and over again as I grew up was Elfquest by Wendy and Richard Pini. There are graphic novel versions of the stories available, and if you were looking to read them, the first four are amazing.

Why did I keep going back to them? The characters had depth, the stories drew you in, and in the end I just kept finding myself wanting to revisit the adventures. I don't really know how else to put it.

If you are a fantasy fan, you need to read this series.

I could put a shameless plug in for my favorite super hero right now (Lobo) but I would have to say the original Crow series or Death were the best two reads.

I agree with one of the previous posters ... the "Sandman" series is the very best. The "Midsummer Night's Dream" episode is one of my favorites.

"Watchmen" and Jeff Smith's "Bone" are also great!

The one with the "ronin hare" that another poster mentioned is "Usagi Yojimbo". Supposed to be very good, although I haven't read it.
