The traditional 1st anniversary gift is paper so maybe a book.
Or you could make some love coupons on your computer. You know present this coupon for.... Be as imaginative as possible. Include some that do not involve lovemaking like one that says You Win. Whatever the argument, present this coupon and you win. No further argument from me. (I gave my husband some of these many years ago and he has yet to use that one! he keeps it in his wallet)

Look up the thing that's associated with each anniversary, and get him something related to that.
For instance, "paper" is the traditional gift for a one-year anniversary.
You could get him tickets to a show or concert....or get him a magazine or newspaper subscription or some personalized stationary.
I know this may seem lame or unromantic for your very first anniversary (esp. if you use your imagination about what your hubby would *really* like to have!), but it's a lot fun if you do it every year, and you can be really clever about the gifts you give associated with the traditional one. After years and years of being married it gets harder and harder to think of good gifts.

If you start out doing this, it can lead to a great tradition of anniversary gift-giving for both of you. For instance, one year when we were really struggling financially, I think the gift was aluminum (or some metal) and my husband gave me a small roll of Reynold's Wrap. We still joke about it, because it was a 25-ft. roll....he couldn't even spring for the more value-minded 50-foot roll!
Sometimes you can even meld the traditional gift with the gift your husband *really* wants. (For your first anniversary, you might just wrap yourself up in some giftwrap, for example!)

The website below lists both the "traditional" gift on the left and the "modern" gift on the right. I prefer the Traditional. Lots more fun to think of how you can make your gift fit.

Happy Anniversary!

Go to where you bought your wedding cake. Most good bakeries will give you a 1 year anniversary cake for free. Save that for dessert in your hotel room after you went out to a nice dinner at your favorite restaurant. Unless you can think of a better dessert in your hotel room than cake!

Congratulations!!! If you wanted to do the traditional gift thing, here's an idea for you- A Get Out of Jail free card!!! I gave my honey one for Christmas last year- basically we use it when one of us does something dumb...and it says on it specifically what it can be used for. And we put on it that the bearer is entitled to make-up sex. We trade it back and forth as we both do really dumb things sometimes. Last time I used it, I had driven us 2 hours off course just because i didnt want to wake him for directions!

Get him a shirt hat he will like, or his favorite sports' teams jersey, men like that.

If he is not into stuff like sports, get him some good music (BUT NOT FROM WAL-MART!), because a one-year anniversary is good, but it is only one year out of the many to come.

Don't make it too small, but don't make it too big.

Good Luck
and Happy one-year Anniversary.

It depends on what you always see him doing during his spare time. Does he like computer gadgets? I got my husband an 80GB iPod & a Canon Camera, he loves it & makes use of it every day.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY you two!!!

If you can't stand him, a notification of divorce.

If you love him, a personal gift certificate you print out for him that is left completely blank.

(let's him decide)
