For years now Jesse Jackson and his buddies have been boycotting South Carolina cause they want to honnor their ancessters. A Cofederate BATTLE flag flies on the capitol grounds. Till they take that flag down, no money is to be spent in the beautiful state of South Caroilna. I'm sure that helps his fellow brothers that owns small busineses in the state.
When I visit Six Flags in Gurnee Illinois or Eureka Missouri I see many, many African Americans walk right under the Confederate GOVERNMENT flag on their way to the entrance. Jesse never gets upset and tells The Six Flags Corp. "Take that flag down". The government flag is the one he should get upset over. First, that government no longer exists. Secondly, that is the flag stands for rebellion and seperation. Yet it is one of the six flags that flies at all Six Flags theme parks. I also seen it flying over many federal and local funded rest areas along the interstate road ways in the south. How come no one gets upset over that flag?

Well there's two points to be made here:

1.) The flag, for whatever it may symbolize to whom, is still a part of the history of this country. Trying to squelch it's existence is antithetical to the ideals it was conquered to preserve.

2.) If the main issue surrounding the display of the Confederate flag is it's correlation with slavery, consider that institutionalized slavery and the subsequent Jim Crow laws existed much longer under the flag of the United States. The Confederacy lasted barely four years. If we are going to apply the argument that a flag alone can symbolize hate, intolerance, and inequality, well then I suppose we should take them all down.

I don't pay any attention to it one way or another. When my son was 11 he brought home a confederate flag to put on his wall, and I told him he could fly the American flag but not that one. It wasn't because of his offending anyone, it was to better his desire for intellectual thinking. Those that parade around with that flag lack something mentally. I don't know what it is but brief acknowlegement of them tells anyone with a brain they are not completely "there". The ones running around makeing a big deal over the flag being flown, I feel suffers from the same type of "lack" of mentallity.

personally i have no problem with the stars and bars. originally it was the navel jack. it just looks cool.
There was a civil war mainly on the issue of secession from the union. The issue of slavery was just thrown in there to sway people from the real reason: "Don't ever succeed, its not good for business."
Today the flags represents remembrance. It is a part of history.

It's just a flag ..I don't get why people feel the need to be so Politically correct these days.
If someone chooses to fly a flag..let them.
Political correctness is just an attack on freedom of speech .
Which is why anyone who comes off as pc or shouts a need for it ...doesnt get taken serious by me.

Because the flag represents those who wanted to preserve slavery. What pisses me off more than that are people who walking around the flag on their t-shirts saying the "South Shall Rise Again." What the hell is that suppose to mean. To most people that means you want things to back to the way they were before the Civil War.

The civil war was fought to preserve slavery.

If you can't understand why that's a problem for moral minded people then there isn't much hope for you as a human.

That amoral flag should be burned by everyone who owns one. Any business or gov that flies one needs an education on the history of our country.

You seem to have a little inclination of history, but miss many important points of the civil war, racism in America.

I can certainly understand why it would be upsetting for people. The conservative flag was the symbol of a people who fought for, among other things, the "right" to keep African American people as slaves. It should be retired, in my opinion, that's just too heavy a thing for people to forget, and you can't deny the connotation is based in fact. What if I flew a Nazi flag, but just in honor of my German heritage, not because I actually want to kill Jews. Would that go over well?

I never thought about flying the big X flag, but now you are talking about it like its wrong. Maybe we should just amend the 1st. amendment to say something like: As long as we PC and talking baby food crap we have freedom of speech! Yes just dandy. Now I am going to go out and by me a Conferate Flag on ebay and stick on my car. You have inspired me to stand up!
