Who cares about the equitment when you have to get a hold of your family b/c you were rushed to the hospital an hour away when your 1 month old was only planning to go to the clinic down the block. But the odd part is that you can get a signal in the ICU where you can't use it.. but not in the waiting room where you need to call you Family

most hospitals have the buildings built to keep out external RF signals (cell, radio, everything) so that it doesnt interfere with all the other equipment they have there. Unfortunately this means that there is nothing coming in on purpose.

Probably because you aren't supposed to use a cell phone in the hospital. It interferes with their equipment!

Why are you using a cellphone in a hospital!?

Don't you realize that you could interfere with the monitoring equipment!?
