the cpu has little to do with graphic performance ... if u have a pci express slot then the best at the moment would be an nvidia 8800 ... and u will want another gig of ram if ur heavy into gaming ... and if u have 2 512s u will want to replace them with 2 one gig sticks so u dont lose ur dual channel ...

AMD DOES own ATI, so opt for a Radeon X1950 if you want to be sure your computer will work with it. NVidias do work, but if you have an AMD or ATI XPress chipset, you might not like the results.

They make the Radeon X1000 series in both AGP and PCIe...

Since I don't use the RS currency, I will list the major kinds of X1000 series

X1300 and X1350- Fair performance, not too much to gain
X1600- Good performance boost
X1650- Adds a X1300 GPU running alongside the X1600 GPU, and has a bit better performance than the X1600. Crafty over-clocking might make it faster than the X1950, but I wouldn't risk that.
X1800 and X1700-Great performance boost, but not able to match the GeForce 8800
X1900- Just a bit slower than the GeForce 8800
X1950-Able to compete with the GeForce 8800, better at some applications, worse at some applications.
