Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons. Mavs just has too much fire power. Starting 5 and off the bench. Pistons is the only best team out of the East.

Close candidates from West are: Houston Rockets, Utah Jazz, Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs.

Houston Rockets: They can be scary playing in the First-Round. They are winning games without their All-Star Yao Ming and getting good play from Shane Battier, his defensive skills and shooting ability has boosted the team. Dikembe Mutombo, is playing like he was in his 20's, diving for loose balls, blocking shots and protecting the paint.
Utah Jazz: We might just see a Utah Jazz vs. Houston Rockets in the First-Round, that would be an exciting series. Utah Jazz is also playing the best basketball season since Stockton/Malone era., also playing without All-Star Carlos Boozer. Jerry Sloan has his team playing hard, playing defense and taking care of the ball. Mehmet Okur has been the clutch player and Deron Williams is running the offense nicely.
Phoenix Suns: This team will still score. Amare Stoudamire, has been the missing piece last season, he is playing great ball. They now need him to take care of the paint, not allow the bigs to get easy baskets. Steve Nash has to stay healthy or they wont get further than Second-Round.
San Antonio Spurs: Well its San Antonio, they have been in the Finals before and they have the most experiance. Robert Horry, has to be that clutch shooter he has been known for. They need to take care of the ball and have great play from Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.

Close candidates from East: Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, Miami Heat

Chicago Bulls: They have a great young core, Luol Deng and Ben Gordon has been a great duo. This is also a scary team to play in the First-Round. Ben Wallace has been great showing good energy, giving his team extra chance points.
Cleveland Cavaliers: Lebron James, is why this team is winning. He has been carrying this team, he needs his point gaurds to help him run the offense.
Washington Wizards: Gilbert Arenas has blossomed into a perennial All-Star. They need to have good play from Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison.
Miami Heat: They are the defending Champions. Any team with a Shaq has a chance to go to the Finals, but they need Dwayne Wade. Jason Williams needs to help O'neal to run the offense and give his teammates shots.

Suns and Pistons. Sure Dallas looks great right now, but is Dirk capable of orchestrating a team like Nash? No, and as for the East, the Pistons are the only team that could make the playoffs in the West so I pick them.

Houston Rockets from the West, and from the East, the Knicks will make history and become the second 8th seeded team in NBA history to make it to the Finals (the first team to do that was the 1999 Knicks). The Knicks will then shock the world, to become the first 8th seeded team to win the championship.

It will probably be the Detroit Pistons versus the Dallas Mavericks. The Jazz actually have a shot to upset Dallas, as they are a difficult match up for Dallas, but Dallas looks really strong right now, and Detroit doesn't really have much competition out east.

Mavs and Pistons: They are the two best all around teams. If phoenix has an outstanding series, they could beat the mavs, but otherwise its Mavs and Pistons. They are the two best defensive teams other than Houston, and the two best offensive teams other than Phoenix. I wanna see a Phoenix/ Houston matchup in the semis because it would be total offense vs. total defense.
