Maybelline Sky High Curves is one of the best mascaras that I've ever used. It's just amazing, and affordable. For something more high-end, almost every Clinque mascara I've used is great, but a little thick. Waterproof mascaras tend to be a little lighter, when applied properly, and Maybelline offers some really good ones. The wand of the mascara matters, I'd say, about 25% as far as "clumps" go. The most important thing for clump free lashes is technique. First of all, NEVER pump the wand to get more mascara, this lets air get into the tube which will dry out the mascara, which pretty much gaurentees clumps. Gently swivle the wand against the insides of the tube before you pull it out all the way to get mascara on it, if necessary. Then inspect the wand before applying to lashes to see if the make up has clumped any where on the wand and even it out to prevent uneven distribution. To apply the mascara, start at the very base of the lashes, as close to the skin as possible. Then pull outward along the lash, blinking against the wand, wiggling the brush back and forth. It is very important to gently wiggle as as you apply the mascara. This should help seperate the lashes. If there are a few clumps, before the mascara dries, place the index finger above the clumped section and scrape off some of the make up with the thumbnail from underneath, this should release the clump.

I use Almay intense-i-color in purple amethyst because I have brown eyes. It really brings out the color. It is hypoallergenic and it doesn't irritate my contact lenses at all!!! It cost around $6 which isn't that bad.

Almay...all the way! It's even hypoallergenic so if you have lenses it won't irritate. It is a little on the expensive side, but worth it.
