that we still are a racist and classiest country,,,,, i am not sure it was so much race, as poverty,,,,, and yes the poorer in that region happened to be black,,,,,so it was the poor class of people who suffered most,,,,, the better off ones, both white and black and all races, got the heck out of Dodge!!
after that,,,, all classes and races are suffering with what the insurance companies and the government is doing, in the follow-up (rather lack of follow-up)
yes, the flooding caused special problems,,,, but i was in Alabama in the late 70's when Fredrick came threw,, the next day the national guard was in there with bags of ice,,, the Red Cross with food tents set up, etc,,,,, i am so shocked that this occured like it did, with people having to suffer and die,,,,,, 25 years later,,,,, we should of improved more, not regressed!
ps: buses were not lined up,,,,,,,, they did not even call in/up the school buses,,,, and the other public transiet buses were only used to take people to the dome , not out of town!
first,,, have you ever been to New Orleans? do you realize how spread out it is? second,,,,, i have not heard about buses outside of the city, but i can assure you its not so simple as walking out,,,,, especially for those elderly or with small children,,,,,, and for those with no cash money,,,
New Orleans did not prepare enough, they did not take care of their poorer citizens,,,, they didnt expect that flooding to happen,,,, just look at what happened to nursing homes, the hospitals etc,,,,,, so it was an across the board lack of preparing,,,, but honestly, most major cities have no feasible plan to get all of their citizens out,,,,,, especially those in poverty,,,
more important to me, then why they didnt leave, what they had offered to them for leaving, is what happened after,,,,,, no one went in to help them,,,, except for the ones rescueing them with helicopters,, even the Red Cross didnt drop supplies down (even if they wouldnt go in until it was safe),,,, and the lact of safety wasnt so much the water, it was lack of policing,,,,,
everyone has their own opinions, but for me,,,,, these charitable organizations are not getting my money or blood, until they can serve better then they did in the situation....... i already really didnt expect my government to help me,, lol
once again, i think its more of a class thing,,,, and minority races are often in the lower classes,,,, it doesnt matter what happens, the richer, well connected, those in government etc, are going to be better off
except tornados, that is a equal opportunity disaster
