It depends on you. You need to have enough time, money, and space for certain petts.
If you want a dog, do you have a yard they can run in, or the time to walk them daily or more? Are you willing to pay a lot of money for the dog and it's supplies? If you leave on vacation do you know someone that can care for the dog, and someone else if they can't do it?
A cat is a little easier, space isn't really an object, but are you willing to put of with cat hair on your furniture, or the not so cute Devon-Rex that does not shed as much? As always, have someone to take care of it when you're vacationing.
Fish. If you're looking for a pet you can sort of console with, fish arn't really the answer. A beta fish is the easiest to take care of, but are you willing to take 20-30 minutes each week to clean the tank, are you going to remember to feed it every day, do you have someone to take care of it during vacation? If you're a begginner to pet keeping, you may want to start with a fish.
Guinea Pigs and other rodents. Do you have the money to use up 10-15 dollars each month to buy wood shavings to cover the bottom of their cage? Are you willing to clean the cage every 2 days? (they will stink otherwise) can you provide fresh greens everyday aswell as buying food? Do you have a spot in your house that isn't too chilly? Are you willing to put up with scratching noises in the middle of the night for some of these pets if you keep them in your bedroom?
If you ever get a pet though, don't just pile some food in their dish, hope they'll manage, and lock the house while on vacation. Mostly, if money and space is no object, time is what you need for a pet.
I'd recommend a rodent since they are not as hard to control as dogs and cats, which neeed a lot of space, and sometimes mess with your personal possesions, plus you don't really need to toilet train them since they will do their buisness in a certain corner.

Depends on the pet owner. I like low maintenance pets - so I like cats. Someone that is looking for a friend in their pet would be best suited for a dog. Don't like grooming? Go for fish.

If you'd like a dog, you may want to adopt a dog that is already about a year or so old that is already trained and won't go to the bathroom in the house. It may be better than adopting a new born puppy, who can be difficult to train and may poop all over the house. Cats are good too, if you get a really nice one. They poop and pee in one convenient box.

A German Shepherd dog makes a great pet. They become part of the family (pack), are great with kids, and will give their life to protect their territory and pack (family). They are fully capable of being a large lap dog or discouraging even the most aggressive intruder.

I agree, dogs are the greatest. They are loyal, devoted,, intelligent and versatile pets. They offer unconditional love as well as companionship and protection. You really matter to them and when you return home there is no one happier to see you. They are just the absolute best.

Cats. You don't have to walk them, they clean themselves, and aren't as needy as dogs.
They DO love you no matter what. They just don't act like 2-year olds following you all over the house, needing you in constant sight.
They are affectionate, playful, and intelligent without being slobbery, clumsy, or needy. Plus they are beautiful and can live in or outdoors!

I agree. Dogs are friendly, loving, and they are very versatile. And, unlike cats, they love you no matter what.
