Majority of the individuals on this site have stated to not be racist. If that's the case, why is our society function the way it does? In high schools, don't you mostly notice that people tend to stay with their own race? Also, if everyone's so friendly and embracing, why do we bicker about separation and they're many posts about racism?

I agree, i believe any honest person will admit that he/she has some prejudice.
If you have ever been to the museum of Tolerance in L.A. theres an exhibit where there are two doors for people to walk thru, one is labeled Prejudiced and the other Not Prejudiced. The Not Prejudiced door doesnt open

Sometimes people may not consider themselves racist and not realize that they really are. I have a problem with people saying that they are not racist because if you truly are not, you don't have to announce that you're not. Unfortunately, Yahoo Answers although it represents the voice of a large group, is not the whole group of people in this world. If you look closely on Yahoo Answers, they are many racists on this site and I have seen some people on here who opinions were similar to a KKK member. Some people are not being honest on their feelings on this site to stay within the Yahoo community guidelines and you answered your own question about bickering about separation. If people would stop bickering and try to work and come up with a solution to separation, maybe some of that will change.

Hanging out with other people like you doesn't mean you are racist. It just means that you have something in common. Now, if you were NOT friends with someone on purpose because of their race, that would be racist.

I don't know if our society functions the way it does because of racism. I think greed is the biggest problem. There are many posts about racism because the few people who are racist believe it strongly and are very outspoken. I think in general people are less racist than a generation ago. It will slowly fade in time.

I don't know. I come from a pretty large city (80,000 people) so I didn't have this problem. All my friends come from all different backgrounds and I'm Korean. Some people live in really homogeneous towns, so it might be the case that it's easier to make friends with the most numerous ethnic group and same thing for minorities in those towns. I think for most cases, racism is exaggerated from slightly ignorant comments. For this reason, I would define racism by whether or not it's done systematically and definitely if any violence is involved. From my own background, my parents usually hang out with other Koreans because it may feel awkward for them to speak to Americans because they don't speak English well. I think it's the same thing for a lot of people living in major cities.

Well sticking with your own race really isn't racist, its just sticking with what you know, a similar culture. We can stop the violence between races but its a lot harder to get the races to hang out together. And yea when you say "in high school" thats because you don't see clicks in the public with adults, it has a lot to do with maturity as well.

If you walk into a cafeteria and there is table full of your race and another table with the opposite color people and you sit down with your color but find that they speak a language that you do not understand, but the other table of the opposite color speaks your language, where do you sit.
My conclusion would be that communication is more important than race.

There are still cultural differences. Most people tend to hang out with people with whom they are comfortable. I think that has more to do with it than being "racist."

I don't think that's about "rascism", just that people tend to hang around people with similar experiences and similar interests.
