This song was actually written for Dave's sister. Dave being the singer of the Foo & the spunk on my pic. Its about a previous relationship of hers. How do I know this? Cause I was at the concert last October WOOHOO!!!

In my opinion, it's about a person male or female that is in a relationship that knows something is up. The conversations with the significant other have become sterile and meaningless and the significant other is doing their own thing while not communicating at all and the person screaming the song is asking if someone is getting the BEST of the significant other because whoever is singing is surely not.

I have always related it to myself and my ex-boyfriend. We were both abused in childhood, and have so many issues with trust and self-esteem that are hard to break free from. Ultimately these things destroyed our relationship after almost 7 years of trying to make it work. We still love each other deeply, but we have a hard time accepting love from others because we don't see ourselves as lovable. Our perpetrators took that away from us; so in essence, they got the best of us. Prior to that relationship, I went through a similar situation with my ex-husband who was an alcoholic (like both his parents), and my decision to end the marriage when our son was just 5.

So I always interpreted it that the person loves someone who has some inner demons - whether it's addiction, prior relationships, childhood issues - that prevents them from being able to function in a relationship. And so they are forced to walk away, despite how much the other person means to them.
