Start with the story of Dr. James Naismith inventing the sport in Springfield Massachussetts using 2 peachbaskets and a ball.

From a simple game basketball evolved into a National past time, obsession, and influence in our pop culture. One of America's greatest exports, basketball thrives in every corner of the world. End with the concept of teamwork, sportsmanship as the true fundamentals of basketball, apply to the real world as well.

In the last 20 years basketball has been tarnished by a broken image of wealth, materialism, violence, selfishness, and bigotry.
So basketball is a reflection of ourselves as a society.

Basketball is a positive role model in our inner cities, an outlet for the energy and frustrations of our younger generation, to learn achievement and success.

I don"t know your audience but i will give you my thoughts. Did you know if you were recycling that it would take 3,000 shoes to
make a basketball court? that is not in itself important but it ties
into a popular theme of today. Did you know that if you had a
basketball rim down with someone holding it , you could
demonstrate that 2 balls would pass into it at the same time.
that would make it appear that shooting a basketball should be
much easier. one team, Chicago Loyola, practiced with smaller
rims and improved their shooting percent. If possible try to have
an NBA ball from both the first half of 2007 and any time before,
as there has been significant player controversy. but having a
ball at all and just bouncing it once or twice makes the point.
i would express the rapid growth of the game in popularity along
with the parity in the teams around the country and the world.
the so called good players , no longer come from the northeastern u.s.. with each year the players are stronger and
faster. perhaps a training schedule, if you are able to talk to a
trainer. the development of shoes have changed rapidly as well
both functionally for all and financially for some. So a comparison
from the old high top of the 50's and 60's to today's streamlined
ultra-cushioned shoe is almost a must as well. good luck to you.
