Because ppl didnt go to English class. No one can spell and no one uses the spellcheck. Thats not the only word thats mispelled. There are many others. It drives me crazy.*

Because Lose seems phonetically to sound like lows, when it's supposed to be pronounced as loooz. So of course Loose looks more like it should be pronounced loooz, than Lose does. And when writing the word, one doesn't ordinarily look at both words first to compare them - one basically looks in their mind for the word with a double O sound and chooses it without thinking too much about its spelling or meaning otherwise

I have NO idea, but my students (college students, not young ones) do it CONSTANTLY. It could be because the first 3 letters of "loose"--loo--are by themselves pronounced like "lou," so maybe they make the mental mistake there.

Just a thought.
