I've been wondering how to pronounce the name Atala correctly since I saw a painting called called Les Funérailles d'Atala, by Anne Louis Girodet-Trioson. The art work is based on the novella by French writer François René de Chateaubriand.

Since it is a French name i would say that it is pronounced Ahh-Tall-Ahh, the only reason i say so is because the French dont like sharp words they need them to flow and sound soft so that is my best answer for how its pronounced.

Excellent Question. I don't know how but I would have said it At-uh-luh. Not very pretty. The way the others have responded is very nice. :)
I also saw on google that it is the name of a constellation and many different towns across the world.

It could be pronounced A-tay-la....with the first A being pronounced as the o in cot. Could also be pronounced A-tale-ya.
