John Boy, I'm tolerant of the abortion choices women make, and I'm tolerant of people's religious choices. Are you saying most liberals aren't?

And are you saying we should be tolerant of global warming?

Liberals are intolerant of Conservative free speech, freedom of religion, and Constitutional Separation of Powers.

Claiming to be the party of the "Democratic majority," and using the ACLU (and others) to implement the morality of the minority is my biggest problem with liberalism. Well, that and the socialism.

Currently, the ADL is lobbying to make free speech a "hate crime." I consider that pretty intolerant.

Conservatives do not claim to be tolerant. We support free speech for everyone.

Politically incorrect speech would be a big one. With of course a liberal interpretation of what is Polititcally correct.

For example, how can you be for burning a flag, but against flying a confederate one? Aren't they both freedom of speech?

And yes I know who flying a confederate flag offends, now who does burning an American Flag offend, and why are their feelings any less important?

Liberals have traditionally be contemptouous of viewpoints other than their own, and I can give you any number of other examples of it.

Global Warming is a fact, no argument. Greenhouse gasses contributing to Global warming is a theory. So is anybody who does not beleive that part uneducated or paid off?

Anyway, if you want the root of the intolerance charge, from where I sit that is probably it.

Liberals are intolerant of free speech, free exercise - indeed, free thought itself - for anyone except themselves.

I don't care how many caricatures of SUV-driving bomb-happy conservatives they point to or how many Christians they take issue with (sometimes for no more than that a Christian actually takes his or her religion seriously) - liberals are the most hypocritical and closed-minded people on Earth. They have no room for diversity unless its racial and cultural.

Just look at US university campuses. Even mainstream news agencies took note that rampant liberalism occurs, when a few kids banded together and made a 25 dollar "White scholarship." The Duke lacrosse players (alleged rapists) were smeared through the dirt by a group of teachers going on a diatribe about racism, sexism and class warfare - the kids have been found to be innocent of the rape and guess what?

Not a ONE of those teachers apologized.

The 1st Amendment was intended to allow the free exchange of ideas among people without fear of reprisal.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for getting along with people, but libs have turned tolerance into their own God.

Blessed be its name and hallelujah.

Sad, isn't it?

This is a very interesting question. For a start, it assumes that tolerance is a good thing, whereas there are obviously some things that most people on both the left and the right do not tolerate: rape, for example, or corruption. Secondly, I think you need to be clearer in terms of what you mean by 'tolerance': some people here claim that liberals do not tolerate conservatives, by which they seem to mean that liberals disagree with conservatives. This is just circular logic: of course liberals disagree with conservatives! Others seem to imply that liberals do not tolerate the expression of conservative views, which is much graver accusation. But I see little evidence to support this: arguing with someone is not a sign of 'intolerance' of their view; on the contrary, it is the clearest expression of free speech. Others seem to rather twist the meaning of 'tolerance' by claiming that liberals are 'intolerant' of prejudice (racism, sexism, homophobia), which seems to me to suggest a very skewed interpretation of what tolerance is, although I do think that most liberals tend to (or at least should) tolerate the expression of even the most intolerant opinions. In this respect there are perhaps *some* liberal measures that could be interpreted as intolerant - proposed hate-speech laws, for example - but these are not generally supported by a large number of liberals, and are strongly opposed by many. It is up to those who do think that liberals are intolerant to provide examples to support their claim, and I see none here. Basically, I think conservatives who make this allegation confuse disagreeing with something - or even disapproving of it - with being intolerant of it. This is not true at all. Indeed, tolerance is necessarily (by definition) tolerance of something one doesn't like (you can hardly be said to tolerate something you approve of). I suspect this accusation is a red-herring. The real difference between conservatives and liberals is not that conservatives think liberals are intolerant, but that liberals tend to approve of things that conservatives do not approve of, and which they do not, in many cases, wish to even tolerate.

Funny.... everything the conservatives are saying we're intolerant of, I tolerate. GENERALIZATION SHOWS INTOLERANCE. Hypocrites. Yes, that statement shows intolerance, because I AM intolerant of some conservatives, the hypocritical ones found right here in Y! A.

They are intolerant of conservatives ideology which is very evident on this very forum. They are very critical of conservatives and the republican party which has definetly caused a division in our country plain for all to see. We conservatives are viewed as the bad guys which of course is ridiculous and untrue. There are bad and crooked politicians on both sides and it's always been that way.

I am not really sure what that means.Liberals by far seem the most tolerant as we dont push our personal choices on people, but want everyone to be able to make their own choices even if we disagree with it.

I think religion is a good example. Our nation is founded on religious freedom and religious expression, yet Leftists (who call themselves Liberals) are intolerant of any higher authority than their own political leader, so they strive to erase religious leadership.

Furthermore, if a child even draws a picture of a gun in school, intolerant Liberal brutes will traumatize that child in a process of cultural reprogramming.

That Leftist intolerance is what inspired Leftist leaders over the past century to massacre tens of millions of innocent people who simply did not fit into their State System. Intellectuals, artists, teachers, anyone who would not be reprogrammed to become a cog in the Socialist Machine was simply executed.
