I understand the question, but come on. It is clearly Jordan. Here is a question how many rings did Scottie win w/o Michael, eh-hem...none. yet if he was the great one than when MJ went to play baseball for 2 years why did he not win one. Scottie instead of trying to play b-ball get a nose job and admit that w/o Michael you would not be considered one of the top 50 ever. Not even the best player at his position in his era. Maybe top 5 but that m,might be a stretch for forwards who can shoot. Ill take Barkely, Malone, Bird, McHale, Worthy a lot before Scottie.
After leaving Chicago and a guy named Mike by his side, his FG% never got above 45% never avg more than 14.5 a game and his assist and rebounds went down, yet he was arguably the go to guy for most of those years.
Scottie look at the facts, why not say without Michael I would not be considered for the HOF, have won 6 championships and be one of the top 50 ever. I will say it for you Scottie. "Thank you Michael for making me better and everyone around you better"
One last thing about the 3 guys you mentioned. They are head and shoulders above Scottie Pippen in talent and statistically, yet all are focal points and are/were constantly double teamed, while Scottie had the great fortunate of getting the single/no team shots!!!
Ok I digress!!!

Jordan from all angles of the question!
I can not believe Pippen actually meant he was better than Jordan as that is just plain dumb. I don't even think IF the comment was in reference to right now with their age and physical condition Jordan woulod still be picked by almost every coach I'd suspect. A list of why also;
Jordan is and was the better player and not being funny who'd ya rather have to deal with Jordan or Pippen? Jordan wins there.
Marketablity. Who would bring in more people to watch em? Jordan again. No doubt Pippen was class but in the end everyone wanted to be like Mike and they'd pay to see him more than Pippen.
Versatility. Jordan won MVP a few times we all know and if we think back we'll remeber that Jordan also won defensive player of the year awards as well as offensive player of the year awards. Mike could run the floor from any side and work with any offence. Pippen was a forward and more or less that was it. Jordan again wins that race.
All in all we woud most likely all agree it is not even a tough choice. Jordan over Pippen anytime... But ya they were both great players and made a great one two punch huh?! :-)

what pippen meant was at this point and age (pip is 41 i think and jordan is 44 i believe) that if coaches had a choice between the 2 right now, they would pick scottie b/c when times got tough michael would still have the same mentality of scoring to get them out of it, while pippen would use his multi faceted game and involve teammates to make up the difference.
there is some validity to what pippen was saying if u think about it. but mike's last couple of seasons with the wiz, he was still a very good player and team leader who would take last second shots. pippen was constantly injured and couldnt do jacksh*t.
i still think coaches would pick jordan...they both dont have the athleticism they once had but as michael proved he still could do it every so often and he wasnt about to be beaten mentally.

If I were a top player, I would rather have no-one at my side that Pippen, who is undoubtedly one of the best second-players EVER (assists, defends, shoots well, and does everything to help his team). However the coaches will go for mj. MJ was a star, a scorer, and a true clutch player. The Chicago championships couldn't have been won if it were either one alone, but the star shooter comes first in the coaches mind, and that is mj.

Pippen was a very good player-NOT great. and definitely not amazing(which MJ) was. Of course all great players need teammates to respond. But I personally think that players like Jordan or Bird(in their prime) could have been put on basically any decent NBA team and been successful. For example Kobe IS NOT at the caliber of these players. I would say he is great. But not another Jordan.

I can't believe the ignorance on here sometimes.
"jmm21"...no, the question is, did Jordan win without Pippen? The answer is a resounding NO!!
In Jordan's first 3 years in the league, he had 3 losing records. He was eliminated in the playoffs in the first round in all 3 years ( swept twice). Then the Bulls get Pippen and what happens? They have a winning record, and advance to the second round of the playoffs.
They continue to add more players ,and Phil Jackson, and get better and better each year, and then finally win a championship. Then another, then in 1993, they finish the regular season at 57-25, and win their third in a row. Then Jordan decides to retire.
Everyone predicted the Bulls would fall apart without Jordan. Most were predicting at least a 15-20 game drop in the win column. So what happened?
The Bulls finish 55-27, winning only two games less WITHOUT JORDAN. Pippen, Horace Grant, and BJ Armstrong all are selected as all-stars ( how could that be? MJ was not there to "make themn better" lol )
They ended up losing in the second round to the Knicks in seven games, on one of the worst calls in playoff history.
The next year, 1995, Pippen becomes only the second player in history to lead his team in scoring, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. All without Jordan.
With 18 games left in the season, Jordan decides to return. But he can't get the Bulls out of the second round, losing to Orlando in six.
The Bulls add Rodman, and win 3 more titles in a row. Then the Bulls break up the team and Jordan retires.
Pippen goes on to play with Houston and Portland, making the playoffs every year.
Jordan returns in 2002 with Washington, posting two more losing records, and missing the playoffs both times.
To summarize:
Jordan played in 5 seasons without Pippen. In those 5 seasons he posted 5 losing records and missed the playoffs twice. Jordan's record in the playoffs without Pippen is 1-9.
In 1994, Jordan retires, but the Bulls only drop 2 games from the year prior (with Jordan). He returns in 1995, but can't get them any further than the Bulls did without him.
Jordan never made anyone better but himself. Pippen did quite fine without Jordan. Jordan did nothing but lose without Pippen.
