For the hundred meter race, the world record would indicate that the runner averaged approximately 23 mph.

For a mile race, world record level performance is approximately 16 mph

and for a marathon, the world record level performer averages approx. 12.5 mph over the whole race.

Since the 100 meter runner loses some time accelerating to full speed, I would assume that the peak speed would be around 25 mph.

When most people are out jogging for exercise, they usually run between 6 to 10 mph (10 minutes to 6 minutes per mile), depending on their level of fitness.

For what distance? For a couple of hundred yards, about 15 mph for a reasonably healthy young adult.
