professor and mary ann
So this is the tale of our castaways,
they're here for a long long time.
They'll have to make the best of things,
it's an uphill climb.
The first mate and his skipper too,
will do their very best,
to make the others comfortable,
in their tropic island nest.
No phones, no lights, no motor car,
not a single luxury.
Like Robinson Crusoe,
it's primitive as can be.
So join us here each week my friend,
you're sure to get a smile.
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on Gilligan's Isle.

"and the rest" came first - because the contract for the actors who played "the rest" were not completed.
Pretty silly.
Then they changed it later after the contracts were solid.

I enjoyed the caricature version particularly Gillian's Planet, the place he goofed with a rocket and have been given them off the island, island earth it rather is and to a various planet!(Warp element 3 hundred Scotty)! shall we face it if he ought to repair the boat or a shortwave radio there would not of been over 3 episodes!

I have discovered that a lot of Emily Dickenson poems can be substituted for the lyrics of that song.
I could not stop for death, and so
-he kindly stopped for me.
The chariot carried not a soul
-but Immortality
-but Immortality.....
