The first answer was the closest. His wife is seriously ill with a brain tumour.
Because of that, he has been excused from having to go to the world cup, because obviously he is not thinking about cricket at the moment.

He is suffering from STRESS RELATED ILLNESS. This is a new thing in cricketing circles, but may become cmmon in the coming days because of the hectic cricket schedule.

Cos the ECB have finally come to their senses and realised they shouldn't take risks on a player in such a fragile state and have left him at home. shame, on form he's easily our best ODI batsman

officially he is suffering a 'stress related illness' but the reality is his wife is cheating on him with his mate
(Ashley Giles was the one who's wife was ill,not trescothick)

he is mentally unstable and I think something else to do with family problems!
Could do with him though as hes probably one of our best odi batsmen!
