Cheap and stupid. If Lovie decides to walk away next year it will be their fault.

Well I think the Bears figured Rivera was on the outs in the next year anyway because he'd be hired by some team as an NFL head coach - he just didn't get enough time to interview with as many teams because the Bears were in the Super Bowl.
But the Bears not giving Lovie Smith a nice contract extension is STUPID. Lovie has every reason to leave after this season and stick it to the Bears organization.

For the people that dont know whats going on. Here it is. 1st Rivera wants to become a head coach but he was passed up by teams because he has no understanding of the 3-4 defence which alot of teams run on 3 and long. He went to the Chargers because they are one of those teams and he has a good team to work with and learn with... 2nd Rivera wanted head coach money and the Bears would rather use that money to re-sign Lovie which im sure they will do very soon. Lovie smith is a Defensive coach and Rivera not be missed very much. Look for Rivera as a head coach in 2 years.... To the Green Bay fan, you have no room to talk, Green Bay sucks and your QB is dragging your team down, make him retire so you can start to build for the future, stop holding on to the past.

Even after the 05-06 season, they didn't give him a pay increase. He won 11 games in 05-06 and they failed to give him a raise. He was the lowest paid coach in the NFL this year, and what did he do? He won 13 regular season games and took his team to the Super Bowl. The Bears need to wake up and pay the man.
What the Bears are doing to Lovie is a travesty. He is a good person on top of being an excellent coach. I am a Packer fan, but good lord give the man some respect!
By the way, the team and Lovie are in contract talks. I'm sure they will ink a new long-term contract, but it's the details that takes time to iron out. It's only a matter of time before Lovie gets a lucrative long-term contract with the Bears (much to my chagrin as a Packer fan!).

I'm a huge Bears fan, but I can't understand why they are so cheap when it comes to QB's and Coaches. Lovie Smith has brought this team from nowhere and deserves to paid his due. They lose him after this year and the Bears are destined to fall back to where they were before, to the bottom. Oh, one more thing, ditch Grossman!

Thye Bears had the 5th best efense in the league so not resigning him was stupid. The Lovie who deserves 3 times as much as he gets, isn't going to get a raise at all and he led the Bears to the Super Bowl.

Being a Green Bay fan makes this news all the much better. Now if they would just cut Erlacher and sign Grossman to a multi year deal for, say $10 million per year...
