Similar to my question before, people speaks alot about smoking and the harm to baby in the womb, how about chewing tobacco as it is not inhalled, but put inbetween the gums? It will be interesting and worth knowing from people who have experience or who have seen real cases....

The gums have an extremely fast absorbtion rate into the blood stream... (That's why sugar is rubbed on the gums of a diabetic when their blood level gets too low)... From that then I would say that putting tobacco there would allow for extremely fast absortion of the chemicals into the blood flow and thus the blood flow of the baby... (at least as fast as smoke through the lungs).

Plus then swallowing the toxins (not necessarily the actually tobacco but the saliva filled with the toxins) would cause a second absorbtion of the toxins through a second entry.... Although this is pure speculation as I have no case to base this on I would hazzard a guess that it is just as harmful as smoking... the only difference is that they are not harming others around them... only oneself and their unborn child.

You've got to be kidding me~ Why in the world do you think you need to chew nasty tobacco??Especially if you're pregnant. Do you really need it?? NO!!!! Anything you put into your mouth can affect a growing baby. How do you get mouth cancer??? By that crap tobacco you're putting into your mouth. It has formaldehyde and all kinds of horrible chemicals in it. THROW IT AWAY and chew on an apple for goodness sake. That's ridiculous.

Nothing with chewing gum per se, but most gums (even ones that aren't sugarfree) have artificial sugar. I think the jury is still out on whether or not artificial sugar can harm a baby--but some studies have shown negative effects. Think it's worth looking for a kind that doesn't have fake sugar.

Actually your baby would be getting MORE nicotine. One can of chew is equal to 247 UNFILTERED cigarettes.. So if you HAVE to have something then smoking would actually be better. You would get the same toxins in your blood but at least it would be less nicotine.

I know I am going to get thumbs down for my answer but it is true. ALSO... Most people that chew DON'T swallow it. They spit! And it also gets into your blood stream FASTER not slower!

Remember nicotine is a poison. Whether it is inhaled or chewed it goes into your blood vessels. When chewed, the nicotine will go a bit slower into the blood compared when you inhale. So its not advisable to chew as well.

Nicotine is a poison and whether you inhale as smoke, sniff it up your nose as snuff or chew it, it still gets into your system and will harm the baby.

yes this will harm your baby because of all the toxins in the tobacco are being swallowed (your swallowing rat poison, anti-freeze and alot of other chemicals)

Wouldn't your baby be addicted to tobacco? That would make for a cranky withdrawl baby when he/she doesn't get his fix after being born.
