in case you buyed a new lap top and its on warranty period you should not put him on hibernate just leave it on and let it work for days , weeks .. well if it has any problem in hardware section you will easily find it out better do that now then having problems later .

well in case it s a old laptop i would like to tell you that the battery life decreases when its in working condition no matter even on standby .
you should shut it off with the recall folder option ( it will switch to your previous working conditions when you switch it back on )

On a laptop, if you leave it on all the time, it will run down the life of your fans alot quicker than if you turned it off or put it on system standby or hibernate. Its best to turn it off or put it on hibernate. Your laptop will last alot longer if you dont leave it on all night.

It depends. Why do you leave it on at all? If you want to keep what's in the memory then hibernating will be cheaper and probably increase the life of your laptop.

Turn it off, hibernate, or standby. Not the best to leave it on all night, unless you are doing something special.

I haven't turned it off the whole week...

Use Hibernate if you want quick startup times. It'll keep all the programs you're using as they are too.

i would switch it, on enight stand by one night off.
My computer has already broken because the fan over worked, so I wouldn't recomment this if your computer is expensive.
Plus why would you want to do that, it gets all slow by the second day you leave it on stand by.
Not to mention hot.
