I am 55 and fairly conservative. I just bought a new dress for a semi-formal function. It's beautiful and without alternations the skirt comes to just below my knees. The saleswoman told me this was the perfect length for this "sheath-style". But I think it might actually look better if I were to shorten it just a bit to mid-knee. I need some advice on this, but please don't tell me to shorten the hem way, way above my knees. (Those of us who did that in the '60s should not be doing it now.)

Personally, i think you should wear your skirt whatever length makes you most comfortable. And salespeople are just trying to upsell, so dont listen to them. If you feel it would look better shorter, and you're handy with hemming, then pin it first, try it on, and if you think it looks better, hem away. If you dont, the pins pop right out and you'll still look gorgeous. That's how my mom (57) does it. Have fun at your function!!

You should keep it the normal length because then if you would like to shorten it later, you could always do it later. And I think the skirt will be just perfect for a semi-formal function if it satys at the normal length.

I think its ok as long as its not so short you are worried about what people are going to think about you dress. If you are too worried about the dress. You can try nice dress pants with a cute top, or maybe even a really nice long gown.

well you 55 dont cute it too short, it makes you seem desperate to be a teen girl again. But keeping it to long can make you look a little too old... so try cuting it like at the knee but right in the middle so you dont look olf or desperate =) oh sorry if you dont like my advice

No I think it should be that way!I think it will look good on you ,and don't forget to wear heels and earring's[big]!that's, my thought i don't know if you like my thinking!It's doesn't matter!
