Since x = y/5, y = 5x, and it turns out it will be easier to use that form, but the principle is the same.

Now, *substitute* 5x for y in the equation 3x + 2y = 26.
This makes sense because the first equation says they're equal.
The substitution gives:
3x + 2*(5x) = 26 which reduces to:
3x + 10x = 26 or
13x = 26 and get x=2.
Since y is 5x, y is 10 and the answers are
x=2, y=10.

Mult 1st eq by 5

5x = y Subst into 2nd eq

3x + 2(5x) = 26

3x + 10x = 26 13x = 26 x = 2

5x = y y = 10

Put what x equals into the equation and then solve that equation for y. Then take the answer for y and plug it into the same equation and solve for x. Good luck. Y should equal 10 and X should equal 2 if you do it correctly.

given that x = 1/5y

plug 1/5y for x in the secon equation
3(1/5y) + 2y = 26

3/5y + 2y = 26

13/5y = 26

y=10
