I'm a bit of a Buffalo fan (not first, but became a fan about 6 years ago by living so close by), and I am appauled at the lack of class and respect in general on this website. It's disgusting. I thought the hit was clean, but it was borderline late.
For the other people on this site, don't be fooled by some of the Sabres fans here, we aren't all like that.

it was a clean but late hit...i'm also a buffalo fan, live in the area and some of the sabres fans here seem a bit attitudy and are loud mouths...people are going too far with this winning the cup and such....if they keep loosing players like they are to injuries they will be recruiting guys from the pepsi center to play.
my opinion the loud brashy fans,of any team are the bandwagon people who if the team was in the toilet would not admit to being a fan of that team

my husband is an avid sabre fan and i am a redwings fan so don't think for a minute that just the sabre fans think it was a late hit!!!!!!! i was watching the game and i was really disappointed once again by the refs not calling that.they timed it and it was 4.4 seconds after drury released the shot.that is more than a couple of seconds and if you read articles(not just sabres website)they all say it was a dirty hit.you didn't see them(the sabres) complaining when tim connelly got hit and was put out during the playoffs last year(and is still out)because it was a clean hit!!!!!!! i also watched a couple of other games that same night and the night after and every announcer said the same thing---it was a dirty late hit and they could not believe that nothing was done about it!!!!!

It's not disgusting, if you've been a long time Sabres fan like.. well not a lot of people who are bandwagon fans, you obviously argue about this. It wasn't an elbow, but it was clearly a late cheap shot. If you shoot a puck at the net, you don't look around you, you look at the puck. If you don't think that was a cheap shot, you truly don't know anything about hockey. It was clearly 2 seconds or so late, and they had the WORST excuse ever. They said Drury had his helmet on loose so it looked good.. are you kidding me? It was clean though, it wasn't "borderline" late, it was a couple seconds late. I also believe Lindy Ruff did the right thing. If you take out a Sabres' captain, you need to do something to make them not think were so weak and can't stick up for our team. The smartest part was sending them after Spezza, Heatley, and I forgot who else, but that was smart to send out Kaleta, Peters, Mair, Lydman, and Tallinder, gotta get some kind of pay back. It's just called being a good teammate.

No, the hit wasn't very dirty, but it was definitely late, as he didn't even make his turn into Drury's path until the shot was gone. Which means if he hadn't turned in Drury's direction the hit would never have happened. The guys a cheap player anyhow, just the kind most people would love if he were on their team. If it had been Crosby or Ovechkin that got hit, Neil wouldn't be playing again until the playoffs, if at all. The best revenge is if the Sabres "farm" team beats the Sens again tonight.

I'm really beginning to hate other Sabres fans, at least the not-real ones. This topic is getten old, the hit wasn't dirty or all that late. .4 seconds really isn't that late. Thats what it was timed at today.

im a huge sabres fan, have been for like 12 years (im only 19 so gimme a break) and that hit was dirty. it was late, neil had plenty of time to dodge drury and he didnt. i agree that he didnt get the elbow up but drury didnt have the puck and had his back to him. its not like drury should b like ok i just shot the puck better turn around to see whos gonna try to flatten me. not to mention neil is known to play dirty. he's just lucky he was already in the box when that fight started

I'm not a Sabres fan but I thought the hit was dirty. Watch the replay you can see Neil lift his elbow. It was late and it was dirty.
