DO you like to "code" HTML, Java Script etc? Working with Flash, Dreamweaver or Director? Then the web is for you.

Do you prefer to create, edit and manipulate graphics/photographs? Layout books, brochures, and pamphlets? Conceptualize ideas? for Ad campaigns? Graphic Design is for you.

I work as a graphic Designer now, but when I went to school I had majored in web design and realized how much I hate to program/code web pages. All that gibberish was boring to me.

Graphic design covers more areas such as magazines, books, newspapers, drink cans, some photography and almost anything. It can be more fun than web design.

I would start with graphic design then progress on to web design, graphic design is a good skill to have for designing websites. Once you have the design side sorted you can learn the code side of things which is harder, more boring but normally better paid. Beyond that some web designers become web developers dealing with programming language, which is a far more higher paid job again.

Remember that these are some of the most over resourced jobs in IT and with so many people good companies can look for 5 years experience minimum.
