In the 80's we thought he was a girl at first. He wasn't that popular but Culture Club was for a short while.

Not really.I haven't heard him mentioned here in years.

What was soooo great about Boy George was my jock brother thought he was so hot, until he found out he was a guy!

I think he was popular for two reasons;one,he was different than anybody else at the time and, two, even though I'm not into pop,the fact is the guy could really sing.

I live in a small farm town in America.

I'm in my 30's now so was an 80's kid and Boy George was just soooo different! I would never have admitted to liking any of his songs then (but I did!) but his make-up was fabulous! The amount of hours I spent copying it - and going out in it!

Oh no, remembering that has made me need lots of alcohol...!!!

In the 80s he was quite popular with his band, he was typical of 80s fashion, I still like him now.

I live in cleveland uk just near middlesbrough( i'm sure some of you have heard of a dodgy footy team from here!) and Boy George was mine and most of my classmates fave, wow, there were fights though with those terrible duranies who kept spoiling the school discos wanting to have their songs played. lol

Very un-popular, in-fact he was notorious amongst mothers during the early eighties in Chichester due to the torment that he caused his mother. From my sources (my partner) this information was gleaned mainly from magazines in Andrew Becker's dentists (Market Avenue, Chichester) and Isidoro's hairdressers (East Street, Chichester).
I however lived in London and absolutely everyone knew who Boy George was. My grandmother (mother's side) called him "that rather pretty boy on the telly." and my other grandmother liked his music because it reminded her of Spain (sic).
