I only noticed it last week! I pressed it just to see what would happen, my whole computer screen went black and I just went, oh god! and ran out of the room lol...I came back later and realised it was just a standby button :D

Puts your computer on standby or "sleep" mode. Saves energy. I don't use mine, tho. Use the command on the shut down box to do the same thing. Mine will go to sleep if I hit my shift key and my standby button on the shut down box.

Maybe it's to turn the computer off. Press it and find out then come back and say what it did.

Do you mean these: ( )? Those are for parenthesis. When I type certain answers (and I answer several a day) sometimes I use parenthesis markers.
