Who else thinks that a Grey's Anatomy spinoff is a BAD idea? I mean, I love Addison and Kate Walsh, but I don't want her on another show. I want her to stay on Grey's. I think it would seriously hurt Grey's Anatomy if Walsh left. Not just because she has a lot of fans who watch the show simply because she is on it, but also because of her connection to so many of the other characters. I think a spinoff is a mistake. Anyone else agree? Why doesn't Shonda Rhimes just realize that it's better to have one strong show rather than two weak ones? What do you think?

i already had this talk with my fiancee, neither one of us is liking the idea. like you said she has a connection with so many of the characters on the show. derek really needs her to keep him from loosing it sometimes. and i think that her and karev should explore their feelings for each other more, because mark will not be able to go the 60 days with women. the chief also needs her for support at this time in his life. my fiancee thought that the only way this might work was if allison went back to new york tate diggs. that seems like the only way that the two shows would be able to exist without running into each other alot of the time.

So far all you have is the premise for a pilot with Addison and Taye Diggs thinking the name recognition will be enough to carry the show. It won't. Addison is an older version of Meredith. She gets drunk and sleeps around and that is that, but her character is not sexy. She may be but it is not. Not to mention the chemistry that worked with Grey's Anatomy will seem cliche with a spinoff. What they should have done is tell the story of Ellis and Richard. That would have kept an audience. They could get some young actors to play Ellis and Richard Thatcher and Adele and using the same sets tell every body what happened to their relationship. As for Addison, I really think the baby doctor thing will get in the way. How many times can you have a difficult delivery before you wonder what is up with that hospital? I do think it is a bad idea.

I dont thinks she's leaving Grey's. If her spin-off is a success she may do both shows...maybe with limited time on Grey's. I don't think her show will be a success though because Addison is just one of the many great aspects of Grey's. With just her and her life drama I dont think it will be as interesting. Interesting in the sense of the stuff that goes on in Grey's is sometimes a little unrealistic and out there, but thats what draws everyone to it and makes it what it is. So thats what I think.
I do agree that one strong show is better than two weak ones, there are a few classic examples of that. The first of which that comes to my mind is JJ Abrams with Alias and Lost running at the same time. Alias kind of struggled at the end when he was busy with Lost. And now Lost is struggling because..well thats another matter.
But you can also have mulitple strong shows. The classic example of the Law and Order franchise. Dick Wolf is able to keep the original show up and running and popular and hold up two spin-off (if thats what you want to call them) in L&O SVU and L&O Criminal Intent. Also in that catagory is the CSI franchise. Theres CSI (Las Vegas the orginal), CSI: Miami, and CSI: New York. All of which are booming, especially the original.
So I got a little of topic, but I think I was just trying to say that you can have muliple strong shows at once and not go down or you can have mulitple weak shows.

I think I would be happy with it. It could be just as good or better and if people started leaving Grey's (like ER) and it was totally different, it would be nice to have another show to love. I think Addison could carry her own show.
I love Grey's but I fear it won't last that long (like ER) because the actor's may get too big for their britches or all hate each other and leave.

I just heard about the spin off and I don't particularly care for the idea.....but I'll be open minded and give it a chance.

I totally agree with you. It wouldn't make any sense at all. Why does production always have to do dumb things to a great show and then end up making it really sucky!!!

I think you're over-thinking it.
