In today's world, the gender-driven roles and even generation-driven roles have all but vanished completely. We no longer live in a society where there is a man, woman, and 2.5 children. We have single parent families, childless families, gay parent families...there's a whole bunch of combinations. As for generation-driven roles, as kids mature far more quickly these days, that generation gap is disappearing. And as an aside, there are father-son families in the gay world where the "daddy" could be younger than the "son."

I'm not so sure there is such a thing as "private" life anymore. With the overuse of the Internet and so many activities taking place on it (from our banking and grocery shopping to our social interactions to our making travel arrangements to our gaming), there is huge world of information available at our fingertips. There are sites that - for a fee - you can pull up the public records of just about anyone. You can search for who owns a particular phone number or obtain information about people, their homes, companies and their workforce, etc.

I think that a family is important...we all need someone we can depend on and rely upon for moral support and guidance. Not everyone gets the "perfect" or "best" family. That's why it's important for people to realize - especially kids from broken homes - that's it's OK to pick your own "family." Many of us GLBT folks do eventually pick our own families...we surround ourselves with those people who love and accept us without judgment.

I'm feeling rather winded now...lol. Sorry for the long answer but those were great thought-provoking questions!!

you probably don't want to hear this, but i think it's still a two parent (mother and father) home. of course with proper communication, etc.

but, if the IDEAL isn't attainable -- you do your best to provide the next best thing.

all your questions sound like homework questions.

In my opinion the ideal family is one who is full of love, support, and sacrafice.
It doesn't matter if it is a single parent, or a mixed relationship, like a gay or lesbian couple, or a black and white couple. As long as they are there for the child, with love, support, and self sacrafice.
