Hello there, Rev. Trask. As for your question, it very well could be; but hindsight can't help now.

I would hate to think any one loses out on anything. A country is only as good as it's leaders .the Philippines have had choices to make, as here in the US, not every one make the right ones, we should learn from them and help others as we can. I think we as Americans should quit spreading ourselves so thin through out the world trying to help everyone, as many don't appreciate it anyway, and like some of you have only criticism to spew.
people also made jokes of a certain leaders wife having an outrageous shoe collection,if there is so much poverty why not be mad about things like that?

President Quezon once said, " I better have a government run like hell by the Filipinos, than a government run like heaven by the Americans." So here we are, in hell.
But we also realised that white america do not wish to have little brown brothers numbered in millions.
To tell you, its really a national pride to be an independent nation. The first republic in Asia. We embraced democracy at the heat of communist ideologies espoused by neighboring russia and china. Some poor Filipinos got lost and still entertain these ideologies to get back at the government especially during the martial rule.
Our politicians kept themselves busy with politicking, and no one took charge of our economy. People become poor and the rich become richer that crab mentality became a national obssession. Everybody wants to go up by pulling down somebody.
Today, we are pinning our hopes to this present government. The president knows her economics and it's really good for the country. I think this government is winning little by little its battle against poverty. Macro-economic indicators show it all.
The economic benefits may not trickle down immediately to the poor of us but, I say progress is on the way.

This is a very good question.
I know that there are the filipino's who got too much pride to admit that they need the U.S.
I think that you should swallow your big pride and thik about today's children and their future not your stupid pride Mr. Sanmigsea.
Forget about national independance, Let the pride go away and accept what is best for today's children.
The Philippines Government and some of the crazy prideful filipino thinkers do not think for the struggling and suffering filipino families that do not have their point of view. PRIDE IS A TERRIBLE SIN THAT CREATED POVERTY IN THE PHILIPPINES. THIS IS WHY THE COUNTRY WILL NOT PROSPER. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ASKING FOR HELP FROM THE U.S. TO GIVE NEW BORN FILIPINO BABIES A BRIGHT FUTURE TO HELP THEIR STRUGGLING FAMILIES.

TOO MUCH FILIPINO PRIDE IS NOT GOOD.

no! people are struggling to be freed from imperialist domination. we did the right thing, though it is a bogus freedom since until now our leaders are being held by the neck by US leaders- our laws remain to be patterned with that of the laws of US,the culture, the system of education is all geared towards serving the US. which is so0o0 pitiful for us.

no i dont think they lost out, they have poverty there but so do we, they are a much smaller country, but the people there are much more friendly, and i think they are a more free society than us, corruption is every where, so is terrorism. ill take my chances in the phipippines, at least everyone doesnt hate them like our united states is hated now think about it i would rather live there and face a few typhoons than being in constant fear of being nuked by another country...

Absolutely not! The USA is one of the most violent, arrogant, culturally void countires that ever existed. They are on a very rocky road to demise - yet they are so arrogant that they don't realize this.

Think of all of the silly rules and crap that would be implemented to restrict everyone's personal freedoms here if it were part of the USA? That would be horrible! People here need to be free, as opposed to US Americans who need to THINK they are free.

please, please, mr. white man, please annex my country! i'm tired of living here in the dumps. unlike what that crazy guy said up there, not everyone hates the US. though they may not own up to it, 99% of filipinos will sell their left testicle to be able to live in your fabulous country. they are lying if they say otherwise. filipinos are very proud people---they won't ask for help even if they are up to their necks in sewer. pride is a sin and my people are very guilty of it. no wonder God hates my country and keeps us in demeaning poverty. i, on the other hand, will gladly be a US citizen. in fact, i will be a citizen of any country where i will be given a chance to have a decent tomorrow.

bless you, mr. white guy sir. please remember me in your prayers or when you decide to adopt a child. salamat po.
