Can't think of one among real, good musicians. There is this group of girls or boys, they don't know what they want to be, called Fall out Boy (they must have fallen out from the category of "boy"), girls and gay kids drool over their bassist, so that might be an example.
Oh - like with McCartney, Roger Waters was more Pink Floyd than the rest of Pink Floyd together, but then, he was also the singer in most of their songs.

Flea.......of Chili Peppers
....thats really it .... as for a bassist is more popular than the singer....
there are alot of good singer/bassist
Sting, Mcartney, Les Claypool, Lemmy, etc, but aside from flea, i cant think of any exclusive bassists.... maybe John Entwistle... but that would just be among the bassist community really...

At the time, anyways, I think Paul McCartney was
more popular than John Lennon. However,
McCartney frequently sang, so I'm not sure if
