Find the amount when the base and percent are known

amount = base x percent

Convert 20% to decimal

Remove the % sign. divide 20 by 100

20 / 100 = 0.2

Multiply 16.00 times the decimal

16.00 x 0.2 = 3.20

The amount is $ 3.20

The discount

$16.00 - $3.20 = $ 12.80

'Shift' + '5' = %, btw...

20% of $16.00:
'of' means to multiply.
20% is 20/100,
so 20/100 * 16.00 = 3.20.
Now take $3.20 off $16.00 to get $12.80

cheers!
