unzipping, etc?

I have a friend who's never touched a computer except for basic web browsing. She's not stupid, but the way the operating system is designed sure makes here feel that way, and windows explorer really doesn't help (I wish the default file manager looked something a little more like Total Commander).

I'd appreciate any good links I can send her.

Yes, go to the Windows Help and Support Center and select Windows Basics. Then move on to other topics. There are many good books out there too.

There are tons of tutorials on the web, www.cnet.com offers many courses for new users, as does PC World, PC Mag and many others.

Google/Yahoo search for: free xp tutorial.

Go to Microsoft's site for many good tutorials as well.

I don't know about sites but the Windows for Dummies book helps. It's not written like the ridiculous computer manuals where you practically need to be a program write to even understand it. It's also pretty cheap.
