I understand the point about not having fish in bowls but there is nothing I can do since I only own 1 betta and my landlord won't allow fish tanks. So right now it is either a bowl or nothing for the fish. Still I would like to be able to heat his water so he is happier. Although I understand the importance of having a fish tank not everybody has the chance to have one. In one year I'm buying a house and the betta can have 2 tanks if he wants but right now it has to be a bowl and I need advice about it.

I don't think you need to heat your beta, Unless you live in a place where the climate is freezing all the time. I have several betas, never haet their water and they do fine.

Nunya is right. Bettas need to be kept at 78-82 degrees F and everyone above is not keeping their bettas in the healthiest environment that they could. Yes, a fish may survive lower water temperatures, but they are not happy. When you raise the temperature to a proper level and provide a more than adequate space in which to live, you will see these fish come to life. Also in agreement with Nunya, fish do not belong in bowls. None of them. Instead of trying to find a smaller watt heater, get a larger aquarium. 5 gallons for a betta would be paradise. You will have a much healthier, happier fish because of it.

To all the people above me, bettas are tropical fish, which means they need warm water of about 78-82 degrees.

They do sell 7.5 watt heaters for smaller tanks but I would just invest in a bigger tank, even 5 gallons would be better.

They are OK at room temp as long as they are not in sunlight or a cold spot in the house.
