Fuels are usefull because if we didn't have them we wouldn't be able to construct a socialised world and transport.

Starting all the way back from the Stone Age when people made the circle shape, fuels have been used to make energy.
We use wood, to warm ourselfs with fire.
We use fossil fuels to make our veichles work.
Without fuels we would actually die. Food is a fuel and if we didn't have food we would die!
Fossil fuels are bad, not only are they poluting, but causing general climate changes.
We should consider using more solar energy (from the sun's fuel) or wind energy.
For a summary, fuels are important to us as giving us energy and movement to our lives.

Good Luck. I hope I helped you.

They are portable means of releasing stored energy. Usually from the sun from one way or another. (Coal is the remains of dead plants that lived off sunlight from years ago).

Hydrogen is an example of a 'renewable' fuel. You can store electricity as hydrogen (this is only clean if its clean electricity like solar or wind) by electrolysis. Then carry the hydrogen off in a fuel tank and release that energy by burning it.
