My male ferret lost his best friend about 2 weeks ago and now that he is over his depression (for the most part) I want to get him a new friend. What is the best way to indroduce them. The one that died and the one I have now are/were fixed and the new one will be fixed as well.

if they are in a cage i put the new one in the other ones cage first. if you are in the habit of letting your ferts run around the house free, then go to the bathroom and let them both down together so you can supervise them when the fighting begins. i had this problem when i had a ferret that seemed to be lonely even though i have 15 ferrets, so it took me like a week to find out which one would get along with him and now he has a cage mate.

The easiest way is just to put both of them in the same cage together. I know that most people will say no you have to keep them in seperate cages and introduce them slowly, but thats not neccesary. When I bought my new ferret I just put them in the same cage and they were fine. The old ferret will probably try and show it's dominance over the new one and will appear to attack the new one, but this is normal....they are just playing. You should only be worried if it draws blood and I have never seen that happen. This will make them friends quicker and another good way is to take your ferret to the pet store or breeder that you are getting your new ferret from and let him choose his friend. That way you will know how he will interact with the new ferret.

well when you bring the new ferret home, supervise their introduction.
first, bring them both out maybe into your lap, and let them run around and such, and try to play with both of them, make sure theirs no fighting. if theirs not, then....go to second.........
second, put them both in the cage, and see how they interact if theirs no fighting then, then the introduction is going well. supervise their interactions for the next few days, and if they still don't fight then they've probably excepted each other.

p.s.- if they do fight while in the cage, then just repeat step one.

good luck with your ferrets, and i hope everything works out ok!
sorry for your loss :(

let them sniff each other out in a neutral area like the living room and see how they do there. make sure that you have seperate cages for the first little while since the new one will be an intruder in his mind.
