I am a girl who NEVER wore a skirt before. But things change. I change.
Lately, Im so heated up with fashion and outfits. I started to like to wear skirts too.
Today, my family and I went out to buy food and stuff, and I told my mum if I can take a look in a fashion shop. My mum said ok. It was fine with her, cuz I told her how MY friends wear skirts at school, I and feel kinda, left out. I also want to look good so my crush will take notice of me.

After, we met up with my dad and my mum saw another clothes shop and told me if I wanted to see stuff in there. Well duh! Then my mum asked dad if we could have a glance in that store, he said why, surprised by the sudden change of the plan. My mum said that we're just trying to get a skirt for me, cuz I got only 1.
My daddy said "She shouldnt be wearing skirts at this age."
"But her friends wear 'em, why cant she?" mummy replied
"No, now lets go"

Im really depressed. I want to wear a skirt, to be cool
What should I do now??

You will always be 'daddy's little girl' and daddy's have a hard time with their baby girls growing up.

He is also looking at this from the male point of view. He remembers being a young boy and knows the feeling involved. He is trying to protect you. That is his job, you know!

Have a talk (not a heated debate) with dad and tell him you are growing up and that your taste in clothes and styles is changing. Ask him to help you find a fashion statement he agrees with. You may not like his style so ask him to look at what you like.

If you will involve dad in your growing up stages, no matter how old you get, dad will be more comfortable with you growing up and it will be easier for him to accept the changes you are making in your life. Trust me daddy's are scared of their little girls growing up. They need to be involved on a daily basis with your life. It will be time spent with your dad that in the future you will not regret.

However, if you want to wear something just because everyone else is you are wanting a skirt for the wrong reason. You should wear the clothes you are comfortable in regardless of style. Create your own style, don't borrow from your friends style.

Do you know how many clothes hung in my daughters closet unworn that she "just had to have or she would die"? She wanted them because her friends had them. It was a waste of my money and closet space.

As long as the skirt is near or below the knee, I don't see an issue with a 12 year old girl. Anything shorter might not be appropriate.

Have you considered negotiating to get what you want? Try talking them into something like a "skort", a short skirt that is shorts underneath. After you win that battle, then bring out the heavy artillery and say, "you know, the skirt I want is longer than the skort you let me wear?" :-)

Ok , overprotected dad is normal, but what it is that you have to live under the rules of them because they take care of you, just except it and deal with it , in best advice wear something that makes you feel comfortable like jeans or dress pants , in the us there is a religon that you can only wear skirts be thankfull that you can wear pants , i dont like skirts all that well , and doing something just because your friends are doing it isent a good thing, you dont wanna fall into a crowd be outgoing and stand out it will get you far in life good luck !

A. skirts don't make you cool. you can be plenty cool with other parts of your outfit so no one ever notices you don't wear skirts.

B. try wearing a short dress or skirt over jeans or opaque (not see through) tights. very in right now!

C. if you want to wear a skirt and get your dad to like it, stick to longer lengths so you keep looking like a lady and keep him a little more comfortable.

D. you could also show him pictures from a website of private schools where girls your age hae to wear skirts for their uniform.

well ask your dad what he thinks is the matter with skirts. I wore skirts when I was little. As long as the skirt isn't a mini skirt I don't know why your dad wouldn't mind it.

Also, don't try and impress a crush with your looks. Do you really want a guy who only goes out with you for your looks?

Well, i am 12 too. I wear skirts and leggings all the time! but you know to get your crush to notice you, you dont have to wear a skirt. you culd still look hott without a mini skirt. I mean i got a boyfriend when i was wearing sweat pants and i was sweating (we were in gym). so yea beauty isnt always what gets a gy to notice you, it could be your smarts or even your personality. Also to be cool you dont have to wear what your friends wear! One thing... ITS ALL ABOUT THE PERSON YOU ARE INSIDE!

Tips,
~Say hi to him
~ ask him about homework(Thats what i always do)
~ ask him if he can help you with homework

that is very very wierd. I wore skirts since I was like..... i don't know, WHEN I WAS BORN! Your dad is pretty tough. Maybe you should say a 12 yr old is the year to wear a skirt, and that everyone is wearing them. if that doesn't work, you should wait a while and then see what he says

I don't see any reason why you shouldn't wear skirts. Unless they are obscenely short or something. I think he just didn't want to go into "another" store. Guys are like that. They don't like to "shop" and "look". They have a hunt and kill mentality......they go to stores only for the things they are looking for at the time, and nothing more. Maybe if just and your mom go shopping it would work better.

It was probably because it was a short skirt. My father did not like me to wear skirts or dresses. He liked me to always wear pants. He wanted me to cut my hair short. I just did not listen to him and dressed how I wanted to. Sometimes he went ballistic on me if I wore something he did not like.

Fathers are just protective. Wear something within reason. You do not have to dress like other people to be cool try to develop your own personal style. It takes a while to do that an you are very young.

You may be able to see some compromise with your father. Fathers are just protective and do not like us attracting attention from guys.
